Q: How did a blind man help the author to see the beautiful world?

A: The man sees the world with his heart for he is blind, while the author merely uses his eyes to skim the surface of things.

Once, the author was assigned to accompany an important businessman to tourist sites in northern Thailand. Reluctant as he was , he had to obey even though there was a huge amount of work waiting for him to do. At the show, the author was acquainted with a blind Belgian who was confident, optimistic and eager to see what he couldn’t see with his eyes. Then the blind man invited him to describe the show for him.

Out of sympathy, the author described the show without missing any details even though this was one of those which he had attended many times before. Together they saw the musicians who played the instruction to the show, such as what they wore, what pose they made, how old they were, what musical instruments they played. Together they saw the motionless picture which was composed of an elderly Japanese women and a Scandinavian boy. They saw the golden nails on the tips of the dancers’ fingers, which was so wonderful in the blind man’s eyes that he would also love to touch one of those golden nails. And the author even offered to help him to make his wish come true, which he enjoyed so much.

This experience made the author thought a lot and changed a lot. He realizes that it is the veil that grows so quickly over his eyes in this busy world that covered his eyes, and that for so long he has been working and living at such a fast pace that he never had the time to pause and enjoy the warm sunshine, the smiling faces and changes of seasons. And the blind man helped him lift the veil so that he is able to see a whole new realm he’d failed to appreciate before .
